Kapiʻolani Park Family Photos |

One of My Favorite Photo Locations Near Waikiki

When most people imagine family photos in Hawaii, they picture soft sandy beaches, swaying palm trees, and a beautiful sunset over the ocean. And while I absolutely love photographing families at the beach, there's another location that I often recommend—especially for families staying in Waikiki.

Kapiʻolani Park.

It's one of those places that feels peaceful, spacious, and full of the little moments that make family photos so meaningful.

Why I Love Kapiʻolani Park

One of my favorite things about Kapiʻolani Park is how many different backdrops we can enjoy in one session.

The giant monkeypod trees create beautiful filtered light, the open lawns give children plenty of room to run and play, and in many areas you'll even have Diamond Head as part of the scenery. Everything feels relaxed.

Instead of rushing from one spot to another, we simply walk, explore, and let your family enjoy being together.

Perfect for Families with Young Children

If you're traveling with toddlers, Kapiʻolani Park can be a wonderful choice.

Some little ones love the beach... And some don't.

They may not like the sand, the wind, or being barefoot—and that's completely okay.

At Kapiʻolani Park, children can run freely on the grass, explore beneath the trees, and simply be themselves. I never expect children to stand perfectly still or smile at the camera the entire session.

The happiest photographs usually happen while they're playing, laughing, cuddling with Mom and Dad, or discovering something interesting along the way. Those are the moments you'll treasure years from now.

A Beautiful Location Near Waikiki

Another reason I often recommend Kapiʻolani Park is how convenient it is. If you're staying in Waikiki, it's only a short drive away. That means less time in the car and more time enjoying your Hawaii vacation.

Morning sessions here are especially beautiful, with soft light filtering through the trees before the park becomes busy.

It's peaceful, comfortable, and perfect for families with young children or grandparents.

Family Photos That Feel Like Your Vacation

One of the things I love most about photographing families is capturing what your vacation actually felt like.

Walking hand in hand beneath the trees. Your children laughing as they run across the grass.

Quiet hugs.

Big smiles.

The little in-between moments that aren't planned—but become your favorite memories.

Those are the photographs I hope you'll look back on years from now.

Planning Your Family Session in Hawaii?

If you're looking for a beautiful family photo location near Waikiki, Kapiʻolani Park is definitely one of my favorites.

Whether you choose the beach, the park, or a combination of both, my goal is always the same—to create photographs that feel natural, joyful, and true to your family.

I can't wait to help you create beautiful memories here in Hawaii.
