A Beautiful Location for Holiday Cards
One of my favorite things about being a family photographer in Honolulu is getting to photograph the same families again as the years go by.
This sweet family was a returning client, and I was so happy to have them back in front of my camera for another family session. There is something really special about seeing familiar faces again, catching up, and documenting another chapter of their family story.
This time, we chose Waʻahila for their family photos.
A Different Side of Oʻahu
When people think about family photography in Hawaii, the first thing that usually comes to mind is the beach — blue ocean, palm trees, and beautiful Hawaiian sunsets.
And of course, I love photographing families at the beach!
But Waʻahila offers something completely different.
With its tall trees, winding paths, and layers of beautiful greenery, this area almost has a mainland or forest-like feel while still being right here in Honolulu. The soft light filtering through the trees creates a peaceful, natural backdrop that photographs beautifully.
It is especially popular with local Oʻahu families who are looking for something different from the traditional Hawaii beach session.
Perfect for Holiday & Christmas Card Photos
Waʻahila is also one of my favorite locations for holiday family photos in Honolulu.
The deep greens and tall trees create a naturally seasonal feeling without needing any holiday props or decorations. Because the background is simple and timeless, the photos work beautifully for Christmas cards, holiday cards, and annual family portraits.
You can dress up a little, keep things casual, or coordinate neutral colors like this family did. The location works with so many different styles. And because there is plenty of room to move around, we can capture both traditional family portraits and the candid moments I love — walking together, laughing, playing, and simply enjoying being together.
Returning Families Are Always Special
One of the biggest compliments I can receive as a photographer is when a family chooses to come back for another session.Kids grow so quickly, families change, and every year looks a little different. Having photographs from different stages of your family's life becomes more meaningful with time.
